Talk Like A Pirate Day September 19th

September 19th, 2009

International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD) is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol’ Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap’n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. For example, an observer of this holiday would greet friends not with “Hello,” but with “Ahoy, me hearty!” The holiday, and its observance, springs from a romanticized view of the Golden Age of Piracy. The holiday is a major observance in the parody religion of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. (Wikipedia)  To mark this day RoboSteel becomes a scurvy pirate on 19th of September and a couple of years back commissioned our Jack Sparrow sculpture that is made from 100% recycled steel.

Like the Roman eagle, the lion was also one of the most important symbols of the Roman Empire. The lion is also found in the Persian, Hellenistic, and Greek art sculpture. It was further adopted as symbol of the British Empire and lion sculptures are today found in many parts of the English speaking world. Our lions are made from 100% recycled steel and have been carefully expertly hand crafted. These monumental sculptures of majestic animals symbolizing power and determination are perfect for the garden, at entrances or in the home or commercial premises. This sculpture will easily inspire respect and recognition from any visitor.

Camara Education
Camara Education (www.camara.ie) is an Irish charity that uses technology to enhance the education system in Africa. The mission of Camara can be best described by the old Chinese proverb – “Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach him to fish and feed him for a lifetime”. In that spirit Camara believes that education is the key to helping Africans break out of the severe poverty they find themselves in. Camara uses the enormous technological resources in Ireland to directly help schools, colleges and community centres in Africa.

The Gadget Show Live: RoboSteel, Recycling Just Got Sub-Zero Cool

April 23rd, 2009

Author: TazzaHall | http://www.gaj-it.com/8981/the-gadget-show-live-robosteel-recycling-just-got-sub-zero-cool/

Having a nosey at Chanel Five’s Gadget Show Live in Birmingham yesterday, we saw many a creative stand, but none so awe-inspiring as the display that steel sculpture comapany RoboSteel had created. This is where the crowds were gathered and there were enough camera flashes to incite interest that the paparazzi had somehow found Madonna amongst the Brummies. When we got to the stand, this conjecture wasn’t far from the truth.  Instead of the usual visual of a sales team in matching T-Shirts, we were treated to steel sculptures of Optimus Prime, Predator and a Transformer all over 6ft tall and all made entirely from scrap metal- steel to be specific.  There is no better heaven for your old 1984 Ford Escort, than by bringing it to life again in the shape of a larger-than-life Darth Vader.  Not every sculpture was taller than a street lamp though. Most items on sale could easily fit in your palm, or in a regular shopping bag which would make for the perfect mantelpiece display next to your mum’s bone china plate.
All materials used in constructing these feasts for the eye were recycled from cars, motorbikes and even airplanes, which makes for a good way to sneak some fighter jet into your world.  If you have a certain item or character that you’d love to see embodied in twisted metal, the guys at RoboSteel take requests and say proudly that they can make anything from steel. Sounds like a challenge to me…
